Pollination Ecology

Landscape change is known to affect plant-pollinator interactions and pollinator communities. At the landscape scale, habitat alteration can reduce the availability of nesting and foraging resources, while also affecting pollinator movements and plant population connectivity. At small scales, foraging and mate-searching patterns of pollinators can affect plant reproductive success and seed viability. Diverse pollinator communities play a key role in providing a pollination service to agricultural crops and wild plants. In order to maintain diverse wild pollinator communities, we require a thorough understanding of their ecological requirements and must ensure that these continue to be met in the landscape.

Pollination Ecology

Our research deals with plant-pollinator interactions at the local and landscape scales, from the influence of pollinator behaviour on pollen movement, to the restoration of diverse pollinator communities. We conduct our studies in the urban as well as rural ecosystem (Eva Knop, Myles Menz).
